INTRODUCTION
NEBICARD 2.5MG contains a medicine called nebivolol which belongs to the group of medicines called selective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It is used to treat hypertension (raised blood pressure) and mild to moderate chronic heart failure in patients aged 70 or over, in addition to other therapies. Nebivolol controls heart pumping strength and prevents increase in heart rate. It also exerts vasodilating effects on blood vessels, which also contributes to reduce blood pressure.
Along with the treatment, certain lifestyle change plays an important role in treating your high blood pressure. Avoid smoking or alcohol consumption while you are on this therapy. Always eat a healthy balanced diet and reduce your salt intake. Try to exercise regularly, when advised by your doctor and manage your stress levels.
The most common side effects of taking this medicine are headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, diarrhea or constipation. Do not take this medicine, if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for advice. HOW NEBICARD 2.5MG WORKS
Nebivolol binds to and blocks the activity of beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, and decreases cardiac contractility and heart rate, which reduces cardiac output resulting in low blood pressure. It also suppresses the activity of renin in the kidneys and prevents the activity of aldosterone which promotes vasodilation, decrease in peripheral vascular resistance, increase in stroke volume, ejection fraction and cardiac output that may lead to benefits in heart failure patients.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take this medicine as directed by your physician. It can be taken either with food or on an empty stomach. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your condition. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Continue to take this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Feeling sick (nausea):
Try taking this medicine with, or just after meal. Stick to simple meals. Do not eat rich or spicy food.
Constipation:
Eat fibre rich foods like fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. Avoid taking any medicines to treat diarrhea without speaking to a doctor.
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

LIVER

ALLERGY
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to nebivolol.
HEART DISEASE

INTERACTIONS

- Mefloquine (used to treat malaria)
