INTRODUCTION:

CORDARONE X Tablet contain Amiodarone which belongs to a group of medicine called anti-arrhythmics. It is used to treat uneven heartbeats, Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, other types of fast or uneven heartbeats such as atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation. Arrhythmia is a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. During an arrhythmia, the heart can beat too fast, too slowly, or with an irregular rhythm. When a heart beats too fast, the condition is called tachycardia. When a heart beats too slowly, the condition is called bradycardia.

CORDARONE X regulates heartbeat by blocking abnormal electrical signals in the heart. This medicine must be taken with or without food. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. This medicine is strictly not recommended for use in children and adolescents. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine. The most common side effects are vomiting, change in the way things taste, changes in the amount of liver enzymes, burning more easily in the sun, slightly slower heartbeat and nightmares.

USES OF CORDARONE X:

Treat uneven heartbeats
Treat an illness called Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome
Treat other types of fast or uneven heartbeats such as atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation

HOW CORDARONE X WORKS:

CORDARONE X regulates heartbeat by blocking abnormal electrical signals in the heart.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Always take CORDARONE X exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CORDARONE X:

SERIOUS

• Allergic reaction such as rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swollen eyelids, face, lips, throat, or tongue
• Blistering or peeling of the skin around the lip, eye, mouth, nose and genital, flu-like symptoms, and fever (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
• Severe blistering rash in which layers of the skin may peel off to leave large areas of raw exposed skin over the body. You may also feel generally unwell, have a fever, chills, and aching muscles (Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis)
• Inflammation of the skin characterised by fluid filled blisters (bullous dermatitis)
• Increase in a type of white blood cells (eosinophilia) and enlarged lymph nodes (DRESS)

COMMON

• Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), nausea, loss of appetite, stomach pain (signs of liver problems or damage)
• Difficulty breathing or tightness in the chest, cough, wheezing, weight loss, fever
• Blurred eyesight or seeing a coloured halo in dazzling light
• Feeling extremely restless or agitated, increased sweating and being unable to stand the heat(hyper-thyroidism)
• Feeling extremely tired, weak, or run-down, weight gain, being unable to stand the cold, constipation, and aching muscles(hypo-thyroidism)
• Trembling when you move your arms or legs
• Blue or grey marks on parts of your skin exposed to sunlight, especially the face
• Vomiting
• Change in the way things taste
• Changes in the amount of liver enzymes
• Burning more easily in the sun
• Slightly slower heartbeat
• Nightmares
• Scaly and itchy rash (eczema)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS:

Nausea and vomiting:

Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Stomach pain:

Keep try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly and smaller and frequent meals. Applying a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Constipation:

Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

PREGNANCY

CORDARONE X is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING

CORDARONE X is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause blurred eyesight.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with CORDARONE X.

KIDNEY

CORDARONE X should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

CORDARONE X should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Do not take CORDARONE X if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Amiodarone or any other ingredients in this medicine.

LUNGS

CORDARONE X should be used with caution in patients suffering from active lung disease (asthma). Consult your doctor for advice.

HEART DISEASE

CORDARONE X is not recommended in patients with active heart diseases. Before taking, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had condition such as,

Thyroid problems
Any problems with your eyesight (includes an illness called optic neuritis)
Operation
Elderly (over 65 years of age)

INTERACTIONS:

Talk to your doctor if you are taking,

Injectable erythromycin, co-trimoxazole, moxifloxacin or pentamidine, clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin or levofloxacin (used to treat infection)
Chlorpromazine, thioridazine, fluphenazine, pimozide, haloperidol, amisulpiride or sertindole (used to treat schizophrenia)
Lithium, doxepin, maprotiline or amitriptyline (used to treat other mental illnesses)
Quinine, mefloquine, chloroquine or halofantrine (used to treat malaria)
Antihistamines such as terfenadine, astemizole or mizolastine (used to treat hay fever, rashes, or other allergies)
Sofosbuvir, daclatasvir, simeprevir or ledispasvir (used to treat hepatitis C)
Flecainide, digitalis, beta-blockers such as propranolol (used to treat heart problems)
Water tablets (diuretics)
General anaesthetics or high dose oxygen (used during surgery)
Tetracosactide (used to test some hormone problems)
Ciclosporin and tacrolimus (used to prevent rejection of transplant)
Sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil (used to treat impotence)
Fentanyl (used for pain relief)
Ergotamine (used to treat migraines)
Midazolam (used to relieve anxiety or to help you relax before surgery)
Colchicine (used to treat gout)
Lidocaine (used as an anaesthetic)
Warfarin (used to stop your blood from clotting)
